A chemical catastrophe circumstance evaluated in genuine time the synergy of several emergency-related services late Tuesday afternoon at Sumner's Cub Park.
The drill, initiated by the Sumner Community Health center, required a reaction to a chemical load discarded accidentally in the park by a set wing crop duster.
On what was scripted to be a common summertime Iowa day, Bremer County Emergency Management Coordinator Kip Ladage released the odorous compound, indicating the beginning of the drill.
The chemical's result on the "unsuspecting" park users was immediate.
Amongst the affected parties were member of the family seeing their kids play baseball, bikers and walkers taking pleasure in the surrounding routes.
As the disorderly scene unraveled, sirens began shrieking, causing consternation in passers-by who were unaware that this was just a full-scale exercise.
